I'm on jury duty this week, and I do that all day and then come home and do my regular work. There are a lot of advantages to being self-employed but one disadvantage is that when I get called for jury duty, there's no one to keep paying my salary.
For those of you from outside the United States, I'll explain quickly. US citizens can be called to serve as jurors on trials. It varies a bit from state to state, but here we are called for a two week term. You sit in the jury pool and as trials come up they randomly draw numbers and you go to the courtroom. They ask a series of questions and the attorneys pick jurors for the trial. I got picked for a trial and while I can't discuss it until it's over, it does require all my time during the day.
