I'm pleased to post the latest SSAS video, "Dimension Usage." In this video I discuss how cubes handle multiple fact tables even though the facts have different dimensionality. This can mean either:
- The fact tables tie to different dimension tables, or
- The fact tables tie to the same dimension tables but at different levels of granularity
You'll discover why you need multiple fact tables, how dimensions can be related to measure groups, and how to handle unrelated dimensions when viewing facts. I briefly discuss the different types of relationships between dimensions and measure groups and will expand on those in future videos.
One important part of the video discusses the concept of unrelated dimensions and shows you how to control the output of measures when unrelated dimensions are present. This video runs 19 minutes.
This video, along with all others, can be found on the Videos page of the site.
