SSAS over RDP

what steps and preconditions must exist so that i can vpn into a server and then create an RDP session, but instead of jumping on to that server and using its client tools to connect to it, use client tools on my side to connect to a sql 2005 instance? can i create a connection and a dsv and build a cube on my side from the relational source on the other end of the RDP?

You really can't do anything over RDP other than view the other server. However, once you VPN into the network, you are on that network. If you can RDP into the server you should be able to connect to it with your tools. Connect via VPN and then open BIDS and create a data source to the server you would normally RDP into. You should be able to see the data without any issues.
